After 2000 years, the Roman Theater will come back to life and return to its charm, shining once again in the city of Terracina. On Saturday, November 11, 2023, the structure will be inaugurated in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, the superintendent Francesco Di Mario who directed the works, the highest authorities of the Ministry of Culture, the mayor of Terracina, Francesco Giannetti, and the Culture Councillor Alessandra Feudi. On this date, an explanation will be provided about the work carried out over the years, documented with photographic and video material.
The remains, uncovered in 1943 following a heavy air raid, have undergone a prolonged process of excavation and recovery, ensuring that the significant archaeological site regains its original importance after two millennia. The Roman Theater of Terracina remains unchanged and authentic: all its components, including the blocks of the cavea, are identical to those of two thousand years ago. The structure has undergone restoration interventions, but without any reconstruction or contamination with contemporary materials. During the inauguration ceremony, which will take place on November 11 in Piazza Municipio, the invaluable artifacts found during the excavation operations will be presented and described, showcasing extraordinarily rare features.
